What is Web-based training?
Web-based training is an affordable substitute for, or complement to,
traditional classroom-based training, video or CD-ROM. Web-based training is
delivered over the internet or corporate intranet. Any computer with access to
the Internet or a corporate intranet can access online courses delivered via a Web
browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer. For effective learning to occur,
courses must be designed specifically for online delivery. That means incorporating
interactive exercises that engage learners and enhance the learning process within
a Learning Management System which can support and track the learning experience.
Worldlearn’s leading product is a web based Learning Management System.
What is a Learning Management System (LMS)?
A learning management system (LMS) is a software application used for delivering,
tracking and managing training. They come in many shapes and forms, from simple
systems for managing training records to more complex software for distributing
courses over the Internet and offering features for online collaboration. Our
WorldLearn® Learning Management System is a feature-rich, Internet based,
application that can be configured and client-branded. It is designed to support a
wide-range library of high-quality courses from a variety of top providers. The
system manages all training records, regardless of how the training is delivered.
The Worldlearn focus is on learning outcomes.
Does my company need an LMS?
This depends on the amount and type of training that your company provides to its
employees. If you need to monitor which employees have successfully completed a range
of courses in support of their job role, then an LMS will help you to maintain and
report on that information.
What is a Learning Content Management System (LCMS)?
A learning content management system (LCMS) is a related technology to the learning management
system (LMS), in that it is focused on the development, management and publishing of the content
that will typically be delivered via an LMS. An LCMS is a multi-user environment where developers
may create, store, reuse, manage, and deliver digital learning content from a central object repository. The LMS cannot
create and manipulate courses; it cannot reuse the content of one course to build another. The LCMS, however, can create,
manage and deliver not only training modules but also manage and edit all the individual pieces that make up a catalogue of
training. LCMS applications allow users to create, import, manage, search for and reuse small units or 'chunks' of digital
learning content/assets, commonly referred to as.
What is a Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM)?
Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) is an XML-based framework used to define and
access information about learning objects so they can be easily shared among different learning
management systems (LMS). SCORM was developed in response to a U.S. Department of Defence (DOD)
initiative to promote standardization in eLearning.
The WorldLearn® LMS supports SCORM 1.1, SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004. What this means for your
project is that we can assist you in the design and development of your training content so that it can
easily be used within any SCORM compliant LMS.
What is AICC compliance?
The term "AICC Compliant" means that a training product complies with one or more of the nine
AICC Guidelines & Recommendations (AGR's). Since there are 11 different AGR's, "AICC compliance"
can mean different things as there are 11 different possibilities to "comply" with. The most
common meaning of "AICC compliance" (when associated with Computer Based Training [CBT]
courseware or Computer Managed Instruction [CMI] systems) is compliance with the AICC documents
AGR-006 (File-based CMI Systems) or AGR-010 (Web-based CMI Systems). These AGRs define the
communication between CMI systems and CBT courseware. The AICC has developed formal certification
testing procedures for both AGR-006 and AGR-010 and currently offers AGR-006/AGR-010
certification testing for CMI systems and CBT courseware. Note that the use of the term
"AICC-compliant" is discouraged by the AICC as it is somewhat confusing and infers that the
AICC has in some way endorsed or verified compliance. Officially, the AICC prefers the use
of the term "Designed to AICC Guidelines" if the product was self-tested or "AICC Certified"
if the product was certified by an AICC-authorized Independent Test Lab.
The WorldLearn® LMS is designed to AICC guidelines. What this means for your project is that we can assist you in the design and
development of your training content so that it can easily be used within any LMS that is designed to AICC guidelines or AICC Certified system.
What server infrastructure is required to use WorldLearn?
The WorldLearn® LMS can be implemented as a hosted or as an in-house solution. The server infrastructure required in
support of WorldLearn® would be defined in conjunction with the implementation of the project but standard MS web server and MS SQL server
software is used. The WorldLearn® LMS can be implemented as a hosted or as an in-house solution. The server infrastructure required in support

Do you offer a hosted solution?
Yes. You can have your own WorldLearn® site, branded to your requirements and hosted on our infrastructure.
If you are one of those busy organisation maximising staff utilisation, it probably means your IT personnel are
focused on keeping your core business technology alive. They don't need the added task of running your eLearning.
The WorldLearn® LMS will provide a hosted solution in order that your IT department can tend to your core business technologies.
Is the hosted solution secure?
WorldLearn addresses security of personal and organisational data on a number of levels including access, physical security and intruder detection, database security,
and within policies and procedures.
Physical
The hosted data is housed in the secure Macquarie Data Centre in Sydney operated by Macquarie Telecom which is the first and only Australian carrier and hosting provider
certified to ISO 27001 international security standard.
Web and Data Access
The login to the application is through a unique username and password pair for each user and the login process runs under a SSL certificate.
Access to the database for web users is only through the web server and no direct connection to the database is made via the web.
Data backup and off-site storage services are provided by Databank.
Worldlearn staff policies and procedures provide a classification system for data and include a rating of
'Highly Confidential Client information' which is applied to your employees’ personal information and your organisational data and other information which may be provided to Worldlearn.
My company has a firewall. Will that affect my ability to access WorldLearn®?
Most organizations have installed network protection systems, commonly referred to as firewalls,
to increase the security of their internal networks. Firewalls are not a hindrance to the deployment of an e-learning solution.
However, in some organisations the network configuration may need to be fine-tuned. Worldlearn will always work with your organisations
IT department to resolve any firewall issues, as part of the WorldLearn® LMS implementation.
Are there multilingual versions of WorldLearn®?
WorldLearn® LMS has integrated multi-language support. This means that the primary interface is presented in English, however any
notifications, messages, instructions or client specific pages can be presented to the user in their own language whether it be Danish or Hindi.
Why should I consider web-based training for my organisation?
Whether you are training a small group of employees at a single location or thousands of users spread worldwide, users have easy access to anywhere/anytime training, from home or
work, day or night. Web-based training can be just as effective as classroom training, and take half the time to complete at a fraction of the price.
Will WorldLearn® LMS work with my HR software (PeopleSoft, SAP etc.)?
HR software typically manages the organisation's employee records and contains details about the person, the job which they have within the organisation and their performance history.
These records may also include some training records, but rarely the detailed data needed to provide something like regulatory compliance reporting. For example HR software may store
records of courses successfully completed by an employee but not the details of which questions were answered incorrectly or those that were missed.
The staff at WorldLearn® will work with your HR software to provide the detailed training data required to support your organisational
training needs. We would, as part of the LMS implementation within your organisation, work with your IT resources to enable the
integration of WorldLearn® LMS and your HR system.
Can I create my own courses and load them onto the WorldLearn®?
Yes you can create your own courses which we would then assist you in loading onto our WorldLearn® LMS. In order to make the
course load as easy as possible we would recommend that you design and build the course according to either AICC, SCORM1.1,
SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004 standards. Our LMS is designed to support these standards. However, if you have any special course design
requirements we would be happy to work with you in identifying the most cost efficient way of loading these onto WorldLearn®.
How do I get started with eLearning in my organisation?
The best way to get started with eLearning in your organisation is to get together with a reputable eLearning provider.
WorldLearn is one of these reputable eLearning providers and would in the first
instance consult with you to identify your current situation but also what you would like to move towards (your training requirements).
The first step is to get together some stakeholders within your organisation - subject matter experts, someone from your Marketing area, an IT person etc. We would then meet and consult with the
stakeholders and identify all the information we require to provide you with a written Concept paper or proposal.
What happens with all our current instructor led courses?
WorldLearn® LMS can help you manage your instructor led training so that you can still benefit from the investment
in the training resources while you develop your elearning offering. Our LMS contains a sophisticated Event Management
module specifically designed to support facilitators in managing registrations, collaboration, suppliers associated with the
training event, reporting and certification.
However, you may also want to convert / re-purpose your some of your instructor led training so that it can be effectively
delivered as web based learning. Collectivity can assist you in the process of converting your instructor led courses to a format which
can be presented online through the WorldLearn® LMS.

What Internet bandwidth do I need to run an WorldLearn®?
Broadband internet connection is recommended for the most satisfying experience but some clients use dial-up access for some of their employees.
The LMS can be configured to check an employee's bandwidth and advise on what courses will run effectively over his or her connection.
What Internet browsers can I use?
The WorldLearn® LMS has been tested extensively with the industry standard browser Internet Explorer v6.0 and above however Safari and Mozilla are effective. Some courseware may require plug-in such as flash.
Testing against your 'Standard Operating Environment' is part of our implementation process.
How much time does it take to implement WorldLearn®?
As part of our consultation with you, we outline exactly how much time we anticipate each step of the implementation will take. Most of your time is required in the early stage of the project as we
jointly define your LMS requirements and gather the information about the courses that you wish to provide for your learners. However it is our experience that a period of between three and six months is most cost-effective.
Typically we would require time from a Project Manager, your subject matter experts, key stakeholders, an IT contact and someone from your marketing area in order to identify and document your special requirements.
What size investment might be required to implement WorldLearn® LMS?
It is really dependant on some variables such as;
How many of the standard modules do you want switched on;
The types and quantity of course you want loaded into WorldLearn® LMS;
What interfaces you require to other databases such as your HR database, print providers etc.
How complex are your branding requirements, to mention some.
